Jordan Hospital: Journal 2

December 7, 2008

Today at the hospital I worked at the front desk as well as running errands around the hospital. Part of working at the desk is answering the phones and directing people if they need it when they walk in. Being able to be behind the desk there is also the obligation to watch over the patients list. At all times, other than looking up a patients room number, the list must be non-visible to people who are not volunteers or workers. This is so the patients privacy is respected.

One of the first errands I had to run was bringing a patient from cardiology back to his room. I could tell that it was going to be a busy day. Turns out it was, luckily there was another girl named Alex there that could help me. After this errand, one of the next ones was delivering something to C.C.C. This stands for Critical Care Center. It was a difficult transition, visiting that part of the hospital, because while everyone else I encounter is talking and for the most part happy, the people in C.C.C are being treated for critical conditions and cannot even get out of bed. Seeing people in such conditions makes me want to make the best out of life and make me cherish and look forward to what I have.

In all, today was just an average day; nothing drastic encountered my path. It makes me happy to know that I am helping everyone in the hospital the best to my ability and at the same time taking on a huge responsibility.
