Sturgis Auction Reflection

At the Sturgis Auction I planned to help out with setting up before, anything that needed help during, and cleaning up afterward. The auction started at 1 and I got there around 12:15. After talking with Mrs. Lambright I was told to ask Mrs. Moynahan if she needed help with putting out food or just monitoring things. I helped to finish setting up a table, then by that time we waited for people to start arriving. As people arrived I helped with cleaning the room clean (for example picking up cups, plates, etc that were left on tables.) By the time 2:40 came around I had the duty to close off a few tables that were in the section of the first bidding tables. This involved highlighting the last bid on each sheet and making sure that people didn't try to sneak a bid in after  Mr. Moynahan announced that it was closed. This job worked out very well because it was easy and manageable. The next closure was around 3 and then after that 3:20.
Once the open bidding had ended and the entertainment was over, I then helped with bringing up the raffle items to Mrs. Henry. This involved bringing up the bag with the ticket stubs in it and the item that was being given away. There were over 12 items but there were also a few other people who were helping me do this job. This went well and the people who won the items seemed to be extremely happy!
The next and last things that I helped with was being a runner and cleaning up the tables. As a runner I collected the items that people won during the open bidding because they were not able to get the things off the table themselves. This was kind of hectic because there were so many items and people who needed to collect them. Once everyone got their things, for the most part, I began to gather the numbers and papers left on the tables. I also stripped the tables of their table cloths and did anything that helped to clean up the room. Once everything was pretty much taken care of I headed home. The day was very successful overall. There were no huge problems that I know of and I feel as if I was able to help a lot even if it was with the smallest things.

Sturgis Auction: Learning Outcome

EVIDENCE OF ACHIEVEMENT OF LEARNING OBJECTIVE

Which objective?
5. Shown perseverance and commitment in your activites
I thought that I showed commitment to this because I said that I would help out and I did. I got the auction early to help set up and make sure things were together. I also didn't hesitate to do something when I was asked. Since I was there to help I did anything I could to make things run smoothly and as planned. I made sure that everything I was asked to do was done because if it wasn't then I'd be letting everyone down.

4. Worked collaboratively with others

All day I was working with other because everything I did was not a "one person" job. For such a large activity everything that I did involved working with all the other people who were helping out. It also involved me working with those people who were there to make bids. For the raffles there were over 12 items to be brought up to Mrs. Henry to read off for the winner, but there were a few other people who were helping me do this job.
