SAT Tutoring: Journal 4

Today felt like the first time Phil and I worked together in a while. He showed me some new methods that him and Mrs. McDowell came up with to help him study and remember things. During our time together today we looked through the theasurus and found words that began with 'ab' because we were working with that prefix, which means 'without' or 'away from'. Altogether we found 5 words, which doesn't seem like a lot, but with these 5 words I  had to explain the meaning to him in many different ways so that he could better understand the concepts. We also worked together to create sentences with the words in them so that he can remember them in means of context as well. Next week we will probably find another 5 words but with a different prefix and then repeat the same process. If this doesn't take up all of the time I will quiz him on his vocabulary words that Mrs. McDowell has given him, give him a worksheet that we can work on together, or find something else related to the topics that we are studying.
